Shelly's big surprise

Shelly didn't know if she could deal with this or not as she looked at the stacks of Lucy Score books. All she could do was sigh and sigh again. It was just her and Odin at the bookshop. Naturally, Odin was putting away books where they belonged. Honestly, he was doing more work than she was.

"What is it now, Babe?" He asked ready to fetch her a perfect brew. All she had to do was say yes. He was off to put the kettle on.

"It's nothing, I guess." She crossed her arms.

"Really, Babe, you've been sighing forever," Odin told her as he came back to her office to look at her blankly.

"This is what the world has come to," she pouted holding up one of Score's books.

"What?" Of course, Odin didn't know.

"Racey bits like this, and they call her trending." Shelly was very disturbed about it. "And a potty-mouth too!" She slammed the paperback on her desk.

"Well, aren't you?" He looked at her surprised. "If she can do it, so can you."

She winced hard at what he was getting at. He leaned there at the door of her office.

"I bet you could do even better," he chuckled.

"Better what?" Was he daff? She crinkled a scowl.

"Who doesn't like it hot and steamy," he smiled. "Even mum looks for trashy novels."

It was the first she'd heard him ever speak of her.

"Oh yeah," it was as if he'd forgotten. "I told the folks we'd be up to see them."

"See them?" Was he for real? Oh, she could hardly look at him straight. She never ever imagined it would go this far. She wasn't up to seeing the Parents. Especially, when she had none of her own.

  1. Who knew that a conversation about trashy novels would lead to an invitation to meet the parents? As ever, you're a master of twists and turns. And what's this about Shelly having no parents herself? Perhaps her troubled past is at the root of all her discontent . . .

Thanks so much for using my cherries in the collage! That tank top is an oldie but a goodie; seeing it here makes me glad I hung onto it. 🍒
