"It'll all be ancient history before you know it," Stu looked half asleep as he made his observation about Shelly. Odin was waiting for the dude to get out of his bed. Wasn't he to move on by now? Yes, he'd taken the old classmate in who was in between jobs and god knows what else. But he'd been here a good week. Didn't he understand his weekends were made for Shelly?
Stu took the tea immediately and nursed it as if he was still hungover.
"Christ, man, you're hitting a nerve, you know. You act like it's over, we're in the middle of something, you know." Odin found it a right pleasant with Shelly. So what if it all started with the book group when all was a no-show at the pub. They became more than just mates. Such a beautiful snogfest began and still churned from time to time. Usually, books became less and less important. But they did enjoy a good book, now and again. And of course, each other's company.
"But she has a life partner," Stu shook his head as if that was no good. Now was it.
"So she says, but it's falling apart," Odin thought it was a laugh now. Kate and Shelly together. They weren't even lesbians. He shrugged, pulling the duvet away and exposing Stu's bare legs, just in his black satin briefs.
"You ought to be kinder to your guests," Stu noted ever so sleepily.
"Well, it's not a bed and breakfast, is it?" Odin checked his watch. He needed to be at the office. There were things to get to, like reports and conference calls.
"I thought you worked from home," Stu finally managed to sit at the side of the bed just to stare at his sneakers.
"I do, but you've imposed." There, he admitted it. He needed his space too. When was the old boy going to leave?
"Why can't this place be bigger," Stu looked around at the studio. The bedroom was practically in the kitchen. "What will you do if you two have kiddies?"
Odin crossed his arms. For a flashback moment, he was certain this was all Stu's doing. If he'd just shown up a the pub like a nice lad would, it would have never happened with Shelly. But it was a chance meeting. Wasn't that what fate was about?
Sometimes you have to give up and trust in fate.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very interesting text. Greetings. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, killer last paragraph: "Odin crossed his arms. For a flashback moment, he was certain this was all Stu's doing. If he'd just shown up a the pub like a nice lad would, it would have never happened with Shelly. But it was a chance meeting. Wasn't that what fate was about?" Odin and Shelly and the rest of them are caught in quite a web. Maybe the books they're reading will help them sort it out . . .
