Tell me something good, please

It was so whimsical on the outside. Such a beautiful cottage by the sea. Yet, evidently one had to pay the price. It gave Shelly a shiver. God, she hoped she never had to live here. The place was in such need of care. The floors creaked. And the stairs were so narrow. No wonder Popsie slept on the couch.

"Your folks don't even sleep together?" Shelly didn't think it right.

"But he's got a heart condition," Odin said about his seafaring dad. Odin really didn't know him. Shelly suspected he might be a pirate and still held on to the rum he'd stolen during his days as a merchant sailor. Really, it was a lot to be desired.

But Mumzy fed them potatoes for every meal. There was more pork than fish. But they were happy as could be. Going on about their precious Odin. They'd hoped he would have been a footballer. As it was, he was quite fetching in his youth in sports, but once he got to college..well, he was a tiny one, after all.

"God, how can that be," she called Mia about the whole ordeal of the cottage, Odin's life before the city.

"Don't fret, dearie. You are only there for a visit." Mis reminded her she needed to be on her best behavior. This was no time to show them was a wretch she could be.

Shelly said she was trying, but the spiders in the cottage made her jump. She swore the place was haunted. And that room of Odin's. "How in the hell did he grow up there?" It was barely big enough for a half bed. And they hadn't touched anything in that museum of his which was a patched wall of rock'n rollers and footballing souvenirs.

"Now stop being so pessimistic. Be a sweetie. I'm sure they think you are all of a kiddie."

"Aw, it's the kiddies that want," Shelly felt even worse about the aspect that they needed grandkiddies.

"Oh, Shell, I feel for you. I do." Mia's thoughts were with her. "You will survive. I know you."

Shelly was in a pout. Suddenly, she wished Mia would be honest with her. Tell her who HE really was. It was just not right. Although, she couldn't bring it up since they wanted her to go out on a boat at sea and have some knitting lessons with Mumzy.

Shell said she had to go. God, why did she have to be so dreadful about everything? But honestly, who loves like this?

That's when she accidentally got locked in the only bathroom in the house. Of course, there was poo in the toilet. It looked as if a bear had visited. It reeked worse than rotten eggs.

Shelly made a face of disgust. She closed her eyes and wished she was somewhere nice. What had she done to deserve this?

  1. What a colorful installment! This part was particularly entertaining:

' "Your folks don't even sleep together?" Shelly didn't think it right.

"But he's got a heart condition," Odin said about his seafaring dad. Odin really didn't know him. Shelly suspected he might be a pirate and still held on to the rum he'd stolen during his days as a merchant sailor. Really, it was a lot to be desired."

And then, not to be outdone, there was this:

"That's when she accidentally got locked in the only bathroom in the house. Of course, there was poo in the toilet. It looked as if a bear had visited. It reeked worse than rotten eggs."

The things you come up with! Will Shelly and Odin weather this country storm?
